Since the beginning of our activity scientific art historians at the University of Silesia creates interdisciplinary research programs allowing re-evaluate views on artistic phenomena. The employees of our Department include mainly research art and artistic culture of the Upper Silesia region from the Middle Ages to modern times. Our students deepen the general knowledge necessary to undertake postgraduate studies in the field of art history and Polish general in the review of chronological and from the basic methodology of discipline. Thanks to the involvement of employees, students are sensitized to the issues of forms of art and architecture and their artistic quality. They learn skills of self-assessment of formulating the artistic phenomenon. Together with researchers conduct basic work on the documentation of monuments, preparing exhibitions of works of art, its dissemination and the circulation of works of art. The common passion - workers and students - are reflected in joint initiatives - scientific circles, jointly organized conferences, exhibitions, cultural events. We support substantively and organizationally individual interests of students with specific artistic phenomena of our region (including art industrial, housing workers formulated as a garden city, contemporary artistic activities of the Silesian district). Students during the three-year study take independent initiatives in the field of research topics carried out exercises, workshops, seminars, thesis.
