Academic Success Center AKCES

Academic Success Center (AkCeS) is an institution operating within the Faculty of Social Sciences, under the Institute of Sociology at the University of Silesia in Katowice. The Center was founded on the initiative of the French Francophone University Agency (AUF) and is part of the European Center de réussite universitaire (CRU) of 26 centers located in Central and Eastern Europe. The establishment of the Polish branch of CRU in Katowice is the result of an agreement concluded at the end of 2014 between JM Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice, Prof. Wieslaw Banyś and the Director of the Regional Agency for Francophone University (BECO), Fabien Flori. The Academic Success Center (AkCeS) at the University of Silesia is by far the only Polish institution belonging to the CRU network in Poland.
The Academic Success Center (AkCeS) is a center of excellence and competence. It is open to all those who want to broaden their knowledge and qualifications and their future career is linked to a European-level career in administration, business or science.

Aims

The Center is a modern teaching space equipped with appropriate pedagogical resources as well as modern information and telecommunication equipment.
Teachers and lecturers center:
IT and multimedia equipment enabling the use of visualization, networking, video-conferencing or a linguistic laboratory;
Tools to develop innovative, motivating learners with access to the current didactic database;
Exchange and sharing of resources with partners within the CRU; Access to scientific information.
For students and listeners the center gives an opportunity to:
Free use of diverse resources in French and more (books, textbooks, scientific journals, electronic databases, visual materials);
Participation in seminars, debates and discussions, as well as the selection of second-cycle studies in the field of European Career in Administration and Business in the Institute of Sociology, University of Warsaw;
Utilize exchange and sharing of resources with partners within the CRU; Use the Internet and multimedia devices; Self-education and qualification.
 
Projects implemented

The projects are designed to create an "European" career path leading from high school, through the UIA to the labor market in Poland and EU countries. One of the key elements of this path is the Academic Success Center, an element of the European network, aimed at improving the competence of international, European, Silesian. At the center there are lectures, trainings (CV preparation, self-presentation, etc.) with Polish and French companies, film screenings, debates.
The project begins with a high school where cyclic classes run by dr Sebastien Bauvet, who teaches about Europe, its problems, its institutional structure, the challenges of democracy, and the development of linguistic and intercultural competences of young people. The project is attended by: 1st High School in Pszczyna, Secondary School Complex No. 1 of Nicolaus Copernicus in Katowice, VI Secondary School of Janusz Korczak in Sosnowiec, IV Secondary High School of Stanislaw Staszic in Sosnowiec. Before the brightest young people, the prospect of continuing education on the University of Silesia, under the European Career in Administration and Business, opens the prospect of a new specialty taught by Polish and foreign lecturers.

Within the framework of the AkCeS, the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia, in cooperation with the Institute of Political Studies in Lille, France, conducts international second-cycle studies in European Careers in Administration and Business, conducted by Polish and foreign lecturers.
Additional benefits for students of the European Career in Administration and Business:
Possibility to hold internships in state institutions, diplomatic missions, parliamentary offices, as well as international companies in Poland and abroad as a way to gain international experience;
